Very interesting stuff. I wasn't expecting so much detail here. I'll definitely read over it more later.

I'd love to see a canonical Clojure version since it would be very anti-OO, as opposed to this CLOS heavy version. I wonder if it would be natural to use multi-methods in the Clojure version too.

Jolly good article.

> What makes someone think that vibrant green text on a straight black background is a good idea?

Past exposure to gorgeous green monochrome monitors, of course.

The page exudes mystical allure on this account alone.

These replies are getting super annoying.

I found the page completely readable, and the content interesting.

If you're that much of a snob, get a browser plugin and fix it yourself. The other 95% of us are tired of the complaints. The discussions here are supposed to be about the content.

Are you joking? Because I don't see how can you reply to my completely legitimate opinion with name-calling and pretend statistics about how you supposedly represent "95%" of HN and not be joking.

> completely legitimate opinion

Exactly. Your opinion.

The tone of your original comment came off as a little insulting, which is why I claimed you were being a "snob".

IMO, people showing off stuff they've been working on and or have created is one of the more interesting aspects of HN, and I think insulting nitpicks about subjective stuff like color schemes discourages more people from showing off what they've done.

Green text on a black background may not win a design contest, but has been "good enough" for displaying information on a computer screen for over 30 years: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/69/IBM_PC_5...

Yeah some people can't read the content anymore if there is no CSS scrolling and other nausea (to me) inducing 'graphics' ...

"The discussions here are supposed to be about the content."

He complained about the readability of the content, I think it's a valid complaint. You might be able to read it just fine, but you don't represent 100% of the human race.

If someone is genuinely interested in seeing a site improved then they should email the person operating the site. Let me guess how infrequently that happens. Diplomatic effort? No way!

View / Page Style / No Style.

Solved.

Take a look at the stylesheet file and note the commented body entries for color / background-image.

Nostalgia.
