Well here are my 'improved' settings for sysctl.conf http://sprunge.us/dhgM. Most of the TCP stuff is to guard against server resource exhaustion by syn flood, etc, the vm settings are optimized for hot cache (vs cold cache but programs) and spinning media (page cluster).
