I'm hearing mixed information about whether this even works on Windows (I've been told the Firefox version of the extension only works for macOS, not sure how correct this is).
Since this lacks support for Firefox on Linux, using the built-in password manager with a Firefox account still feels like the easiest cross-platform solution.
Currently you need to use biometric or password to access your keys.
If you use the extension will it make a copy of the passwords locally, or does it still require biometric on every password access ?
Also would be nice to have logs and see exactly which passwords re being retrieved by the add on. I know it’s apple made but still feels like an extra vector.
Biometric or password is necessary for every access (which may be an inconvenience for some).
Basically, the addon communicates with a native application on the OS (the iCloud application on Windows or the password application on macOS) so there is nothing stored in Firefox.
I guess I can finally move off Safari. The only thing holding me back was the password / iCloud Keychain integration.
Webkit as an Engine may have improved a lot. As evidence with Orion using the same webkit is simply a much better browser. Safari for whatever reason simply hasn't caught on. Compared to all the improvement Chrome and Firefox has had over the years.
While a welcome addition, it doesn't move the needle for me personally.
I like my passwords to be cross platform, easily exportable, and plus this puts too many eggs into the Apple basket. Currently, no Android support, and you need a Mac to export your passwords into a CSV.
I'll stick to Bitwarden until Enshittification takes them. Still feel like Bitwarden's Firefox addon hasn't received many improvements since I started using it years ago, still annoying when it loses focus and closes while copying credentials out.
i have used many password managers over the years and am
now 100% only on icloud. it isn’t the best (i would love custom attributes), but it’s the best to sync it to my icloud account
if they could do this on windows i would be very happy
