It’s interesting to see how different the production facilities seem between Blue Origin and Space X. Blue origin gives off the same vibe as ULA - everything is immaculate and perfectly organized. Whenever Dodd does a Musk interview it seems like they’re totally winging it.
Wearing a clean suit to inspect the second stage while Musk is welding everything together outdoors seems like the perfect example. I’m far from a rocket expert, so I could be totally off base here.
One of the first tesla super chargers was at SpaceXs hawthorne location so I used to charge there all the time. You could just walk through the outdoor part of the facility to go to Eureka, a local bar there. I remember just seeing rusted parts of random crap outside and being in awe.
Honestly, you'd think it would hurt them but right now they've had a ton of successful launches while astronauts are stranded thanks to Boeing so who knows. lol
Two new companies competing in the exact same market (European small sats). One designing everything in house from scratch super carefully. One outsourcing everything possible to car manufacturers and relying on software and course corrections to allow for less precise manufacturing.
