"Privacy", to me in this context, means that data about me isn't collected. Even if we assume it's possible to really anonymize data, it was still collected, which means there was an intrusion into privacy. Whether or not that intrusion is OK depends on a lot of things and I'm not speaking to that here.

So, in my view, it's rather misleading to use the term "privacy" with these efforts. They are really about how to allow processing of sensitive data in a way that people won't squeal too much about.
