The labels on the defect bin were things like scratched, rough, curved, stuck together, and uneven coating.

北 = kita (north) 星 = boshi (from hoshi, meaning star) 鉛筆 = enpitsu (pencil)

So … "Kitaboshi Pencil" or "North Star Pencil", the company name.
