It works pretty well in practice, so well, that citizens assemblies are often better informed than the politicians in government. Yet politicians routinely ignore their non-binding decisions/conclusions, as if there is a group of people that deserves more attention.
The non-free version is not official. The last time I used it, it came pre-installed with a bunch of Indonesian language bloat software that it not part of the official Debian install. This is not an acceptable middle ground.
That sounds like an issue that should not happen, please report a bug about it. The non-free version should be identical to the free version except for the installed firmware.
Not being surprised is not the same as being defeatist/conformist. There are things I would love to see changed that don’t surprise me, and there are things that surprise me that I see no reason to change. One does not imply the other.
Yes let them exercise their free speech so they can collectively silence others; You're on to something.
And speaking of parroting, I'll agree that much of what joe and by proxy his guests say is dangerous. Where we disagree is whether or not these things are "untrue" and to whom they are dangerous towards.
There are plenty of examples through history of mass speech overturning things.
And there are plenty of boycotts organised by both left and right wing media the world over.
In the last four or five years, Trump urged boycotts of MLB, Coke, Goodyear, AT&T, Delta, JP Morgan Chase, Viacom, Merck, Cisco the NFL.
Trump _supporters_ (major and minor) have urged boycotts of Meetup, Nike, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Netflix, Pepsi, Nabisco, Anheuser Busch, Amazon, Ben & Jerry's, Apple, Ford, Bank of America... and Tucker Carlson is currently nursing very public hurt feelings about anthropomorphic chocolate CGI characters.
This stuff happens. It's how change of all kinds happens. It shouldn't be surprising if it is aimed at Joe Rogan, since he's so fond of being outspoken.
“I crush people” is an unacceptable attitude for a manager to take regarding his own employees. Whether those employees can handle that sort of counterproductive adversity is irrelevant.
We don't live in a utopia. There are going to be people that say and do things that you dislike; That's reality. Instead of running to an authority figure to complain every time you encounter adversity, like a child, people need to learn to handle those situations...like adults. Someone acting mean or making an off color comment like this are a fact of life. No amount of safe spaces and down voting inconvenient truths is going to change that.
I don’t think you read what I wrote. This has nothing to do with anyone’s ability to handle adversity. It’s about whether “I crush people” is an acceptable management style. Hint: It isn’t.
I would probably handle the situation like an adult. By quitting. People dealing with the consequences of their actions are a fact of life.
I want my place of work to be a safe pace and I'm not ashamed to admit it. If I want to confront somebody's tamper tantrum I'd... do exactly what I'm doing right now, really.
I mean, I'm not sure that I'd be afraid of them; it comes across as kind of comical. Obviously, though, I don't think they'd make an appropriate people manager.
