It’s unkind and insensitive to elevate mentally ill people to high positions of power that can effect millions of people.

Yeah you don’t want to work 60+ hours a week to be even remotely close to what you were making before?

> Yeah you don’t want to work 60+ hours a week

These are union jobs where hours worked don't extend beyond 50 hours including overtime and with significantly lower barrier to entry compared to software.

Why should American SWEs earn more than Accountants (around $80k), Teachers (around $70k), or Mechanical Engineers (around $80k)?

It's this kind of attitude that makes non-techies feel schadenfreude.

Techies moan and moan, yet in reality we became the capital elite - a median TC of $190K [0] does make you the capital elite in a country where the median household income is $80k [1]. Even investment bankers have a similar TC to SWEs [2] - especially if you don't work for a Bulge Bracket or Elite Boutique.

Just because someone has it worse doesn't mean you should accept bad things happening.

Perhaps I would have heard of this moon mission if HN wasn’t busy inundating me with politics and AI product threads.

I feel like I vaguely remember hearing about it a while back, with little fanfare, and then not again until just yesterday.

In that time I’ve learned of all kinds of crazy developments in politics and AI companies here on HN

Personal accountability can still be something we all strive to honor. Blaming a news aggregator website for your own ignorance is a hell of a thing.

I mean, this kind of just feels like reasonable criticism of HN worded a bit oddly.

What’s the buzz like amongst military right now? Is moral low? High?

It’s been fascinating to see my Father (Marine and Army veteran) and my brother (soon be a commissioned Air Force officer) who usually are very aligned politically start develop the first rift I’ve ever seen regarding this war.

Indeed, he always seems like an obnoxious media attention whore to me long before he got into politics.

I tend to have a negative view of celebrities who did cameos for the Simpsons far past its peak lol

The remaining “true believers” are so fucking stupid now I can genuinely not tell parody from the real thing. I don’t think I’ve seen a more desperate cope yet.

Don’t worry man, the LLM’s will invent FTL travel before 2030. Trust me.

TUIs blow most modern web apps out of the water in terms of UX

I’m frankly surprised it hasn’t been flagged to hell yet.

Flagged just now. Feels like the early days of Stackoverflow :)

My job replaced eclipse with VSCode for Java+Spring development.

Can’t say I miss eclipse, but a lot of the VSCode extensions seems to utilize old legacy eclipse stuff and has the bugs to match.

Did you consider IntelliJ, even just the community edition?

If not you really should. IntelliJ with Java is one of the best dev experiences I've ever had. I'm a VSCode fan for most other things but for Java I wouldn't even remotely consider using it over IntelliJ if I had the option :-)

Your are still running Eclipse, Red-Hat and Microsoft run it headless.

It is not old.

Likewise Oracle VSCode version runs Netbeans headless.
