should cats drink milk?

No, they're lactose intollerant - or do you mean kittens?

can anyone recommend me good, battle-tested "slider" solution for playing videos as well as displaying images from single gallery? ideally capable of handling huge galleries (hundreds of items) with lazy loading

Not a today answer, but this is something I'm excited to build within the new Presets concept of video.js v10, where we can build specific "video interfaces" beyond a standard player using the composable architecture.

I've used https://yet-another-react-lightbox.com/ in anger and it's great, very extensible too.

That only works in React though.

the only thing that keeps me from migrating from DO to Hetzner is the lack of monitoring agent on the latter. its really nice to set up some hdd & cpu alerts from within cloud provider control panel directly.

just use google tasks? hello? it has notification and calendar integration

"fancy asset catalog management system" - was thinking about building such solution lately - do you know any open-source solutions of this kind?

I’ve built or been involved in building 4 closed source media asset management systems ( including my current place of work and one I cofounded) and you can get relatively far in the first month.

But the devil is in the details and most people that attempt it don’t even get the database models right on the first or second time, they underestimate the complexity particularly when it comes to video and struggle when the use cases widen. Document asset management systems are way easier but usually don’t understand media as in depth as a media asset management system.

i dont understand the excitement here. it's just a HTTP wrapper for CLI command. you can build it easily on your own with any decent RAD framework

i think there should be bike-highways connecting larger cities in given country so you could travel larger distances using smooth tarmac like cars do

Yes, there should be cycle highways. A few countries, like Belgium [1], Denmark [2], and Netherlands [3], already have them.

i would say that it is just begining
