"engineer" comes from ingenium (mind, talent) in Latin.

Engineer in most latin languages would be a completely different word to Engine (usually Motor)

Thanks, I've added detail and will remember the next time I submit something.

Why not just figure out the pixelRatio once and then serve images according to that?

See this gist: https://gist.github.com/3848834

This isn't really good practice, unless you revise your cookie on every page load to make sure it is still correct; e.g. restoring an ipad2 backup to an ipad3 will leave you with the wrong images for the next 10 years.

And an OLPC-style device might have different ratios if you're browsing using the e-ink display rather than the lcd.

So, you are saying that Samsung and Nokia aren't popular enough?

Samsung and Nokia are popular enough and have the resources to back NFC but as of now they haven't done anything besides launching phones with the technology.

NFC today is just a dummy selling point and they know it, because they haven't done anything to make it popular.

This is basically where Bluetooth was in, say 2003. People are disappointed because Apple is generally forward-looking when it comes to standards and tech, but has shied away from NFC (which shouldn't be surprising given their stance on USB3.0 and Blu-Ray).

that is only true for iPhone and iPod touch, you can have inline video on the iPad.

And in iAds on the phone...

That title is misleading... I expected blood!

About the post itself: I personally use github as a git host of public code only, other than viewing code (which does a great job at, IMO) and hosting I have no other use for it.

All the other things I do them with the cli.

It's not a reward for Apple. It's a discount to thank/compensate those who read about the iOS client being available when it wasn't.

The in-app purchases can be managed outside the app so probably this "discount" will be temporary.

Then again, it isn't a bonus because you are an iOS user but the fact that we had a broken promise.

Prey iOS app dev here,

The app is technically ready to be submitted I'm waiting on some last graphic details that need to be designed yet, so as the post says any day next week we will submit the app which will be diligently tweeted (@preyproject) and hopefully (with Apple's blessing) it will become available on the last days of this month.

In the meantime, you can check what we've been doing here: https://github.com/prey/prey-ios-client. *

*As you may note, it doesn't compile since the project includes the In-App Purchases classes which are private and part of a submodule. Delete those references and you'll be good to hack :)

Even if it's not available in the App Store, you can get it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ios.html
