Not really. Saudi Arabia and Iran struck a China brokered deal several years ago and have been meeting regularly since. In fact, they recently met and put out a statement condemning Israel’s attacks on Iran.
Because humans will want them to in order to outcompete the other human who currently has the most powerful AI, unless we show restraint and cooperation the kind of which we’ve never displayed in our existence.
We might end up answering the Fermi paradox within our lifetimes.
One of the strongest reasons to hold onto the dollar is the stability and finances of the U.S. government.
But in the last month, the U.S. President has pushed for a criminal investigation of the Fed chair because he isn’t doing what the U.S. President is asking, has threatened to start a war of conquest against a NATO ally, has simultaneously said increased taxes on imports will reduce the deficit but also that he will distribute it all away, has used import taxes as a geopolitical weapon, has said he runs Venezuela and one of the first things he’s done is injected the US government ahead of all other creditors.
All of this in the first few weeks of 2026. And every one of these actions destroy the very basis of why the world has confidence in the finances of the U.S. govt.
Well if the Fed Chair did commit a crime, it’s probably better that be investigated and resolved. I wouldn’t put my money in a country where the monetary authorities commit crimes with impunity. I’m not sure what your other points have to do with the monetary authority.
Maybe you should look into the context. The investigation is supposedly over lying to Congress about the true cost of the renovation of the federal reserve HQ. Despite being a topic week within the current president's wheelhouse, this is incredibly flimsy even if true. It sure looks like a politically motivated attack because the Fed chair won't let Trump dictate monetary policy - thank God!
Nadella turned Microsoft completely around. Before Nadella, for about 2 decades, Microsoft’s entire purpose seemed to be to stuff Windows into everything. Changing this was a massive undertaking that was largely unimaginable within MS.
Unfortunately now under Nadella AI is taking the role Windows used to play, but even there he understood the importance of AI before most of his competitors did which is what allowed Microsoft to gain such a substantial footing in OpenAI.
And in the process alieanted most of the Windows developers, only game devs care (hence Proton), and now it is a QA mess.
Also it is quite clear for us old timers, that since the AI obssession started in Redmond, the old rotten Microsoft culture is back, it probably never left but it was tamed in the early Satya years.
Is it the imposition of tariffs on Canada and Mexico? Or is it the rescinding of those tariffs a day later. Or is it the pause but when the pause was supposed to end nothing really changed?
Or is it the liberation day tariffs on everyone? Or the subsequent reduction of liberation day tariffs a few days later but an increase in tariffs against China.
Or is the “it” the fact that the administration reveals these major market moving actions a few hours before making them public to friends, family and donors?
Once anyone can figure out what “it” is supposed to be one can have a discussion about whether it’s good or not.
