I'd hate to be either of the two students the author throws under the bus with nary a sentence of context (the bus here being thousands of words describing Lenin's atrocities). Just think, one moment you're unable to sufficiently articulate your feelings on hate speech in front of a class to satisfy your professor, the next moment you've been lumped in with a mass murderer!
> I recalled this curious concept of freedom when a student defended complete freedom of speech except for hate speech—and hate speech included anything he disagreed with. Whatever did not seem hateful was actually a “dog-whistle.”
That seems pretty clear, and just the opposite of Evelyn Beatrice Hall's paraphrase of Voltaire's position:[0]
“I wholly disapprove of what you say—and will defend to the death your right to say it.”
Seems to be a common game with ignorant right and ignorant left (I can think of a million instances of ignorant right-wing people rambling on incessantly about the "socialist" part of national socialist german workers' party). The difference I suppose is that fascism is a far-right ideal and not a far-left one. Also the fact that the far-right in the United States are in some cases literal neonazis.
I’m not sure how you justify this? If one is going to define politics along a spectrum like left to right, fascism is going to be grouped with other political systems that tend toward nationalism and nativist policies.
Well it doesn’t really suffice it to say. You can’t expect the reader to take your word for it. Wikipedia at least has primary sources that anyone can examine. Sounds like conspiracy theory claptrap.
A very interesting topic is how the details of Earth's orbit at any one time affect the change in global temperature. You can read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
Milankovitch cycles are thought to be a major factor, by everyone from climate scientists to oil companies (who have refined the history of these cycles exquisitely to help identify petroleum in particular rock units deposited during rising or falling sea levels).
Another, much longer term factor (tens to hundreds of millions of years) has to do with the positions of the continents on earth, which affects how well ice can be stored. If there is considerable landmass near the poles and it's cold, then ice sheets can form, which increase the amount of reflected solar radiation (albedo) and decrease the amount of heat stored in the oceans (which have less volume due to ice sheet storage, and because sea level falls, the warm shallow seas that hold a lot of heat are much smaller). This can help cooling feedbacks. When the continents are arranged such that there is little polar landmass, these situations are reversed which leads to heating.
In my mind it's much more like Zodiac. It's not nearly as "smart" as Snow Crash or Cryptonomicon, and at least to me sort of screamed "grocery store fiction" as I was reading it. That said, I could not put it down, and found myself following every twist and turn with a grin.
Thinking of the Children pales in comparison to "But what about my ranch?" Wolf extinction, wolf reintroduction, and wolf hunting licenses are all fun topics in Montana.
You are right. I posted a temporary demo homepage I created 10 minutes before the post - this way people wouldn't have to create an account to try it out. The real home page is http://boldcanvas.com/.
Regarding the hover over text color - we'll experiment with some options. Would you suggest using something with a stronger contrast?
Got it. I hadn't noticed that earlier. Will look into it - you are right that the entire header should highlight instead of one line at a time. Thanks!
Shucks, I had just started working on something very similar as a project! Introducing cooking to people who wouldn't otherwise consider it reasonable or possible for their lifestyle is a fantastic thing to strive for and I wish you all the best.
Thanks @arcadius! Please download the app and give us your feedback! We're always looking for new ways to empower people to be the Kptn of their kitchen, there's always time for a healthy, delicious meal!
There's also just a lot of green space here. The city's got parks all over, in a bunch of different sizes. If you're downtown you have to trek a bit to get to a nice quiet park, but it's generally pretty easy to find somewhere you can just sit in a patch of dandelions and contemplate the ineffable.
Pretty happy overall. It's a little more receptive to noise than I'm used to, if my phone is anywhere near it I get a sort of low hiss. I adjusted the ohms for my Q701s but that seemed to make the noise problem worse. Despite all that, like I said pretty happy.
